Welcome to Umeå Centre for Gender Studies (UCGS)
UCGS is an interdisciplinary research centre that is responsible for gender research at Umeå University. UCGS is one of three research environments in Sweden appointed as a Centre of Gender Excellence by the Swedish Research Council.
UCGS aims to be a leading research centre for gender studies at both national and international levels. From 2008 Umeå Centre for Gender Studies (UCGS) is the organizational host for the research programme Challenging Gender, financed by the Swedish Research Council.
UCGS also offers courses in Gender Studies at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels.

Sara Edenheim, associate professor at Umeå Center for Gender Studies (UCGS) has been in Dhaka, Bangladesh on a Linnaeus-Palme Exchange program. Her open lecture at BRAC University 'Performativity as a Symptom: the Trembling Body in the Works of Judith Butler.' made it all the way to the newspapers. Read the interview here!
The Graduate School of Gender Studies has since 2001 been in the leading edge when it comes to interdisciplinary collaboration. This autumn they have admitted five new doctoral students, wish means that they now have 37 doctoral students enrolled.
September has finally arrived. At Umeå Center for Gender Studies that means new students, new courses starting, and, as always, time to listen to a lot of interesting gender researchers presenting their work at our higher seminar.
